hats, scarves, sweaters oh my

youve seen this hat pattern before. i made one for jason, and one for my brother for christmas. but now, emma has a little white one. i love it. it is simply a half double crochet, with three rows of cluster stitches spread out on the hat. a cluster stitch is like hdc, but you yarn over and pull through until there are 5 loops on the hook instead of only 3. then pull through all 5 loops at once to complete the stitch. the brim is made of triple crochets, with double and hdc on the ends to blend it into the sides of the hat.

i found this pink/white blend from lion brand, vanna's choice, and had to make something for myself out of it. here is the same hat, with a white stripe, and a scarf. the scarf is double layered crochet. i have heard it called "thermal" but i learned it from my mom, who learned it from her stepmother's mom. if you want to know how its done, i can work on that. its not really that hard, just hard to explain in words. :) also, it is crazy warm, and makes great blankets.

i love the hat. in this picture it looks tiny on my big head, but in real life it really is cute.

for emma, i wanted try my hand at crocheting a sweater. i found a pattern from lion brand, and just started. i dont have a picture of her wearing it, but it is so cute on. the sleeves are 3/4 length, and it has a bit of swing around the waist. she seems comfortable in it too. i made her a hat to match, with hdc for most of the hat, then three rows of cluster stitch and spaces for a little checker board window effect, and its finished with a couple rows of hdc.
